Cow Hide and Beef Trimmings have been used as bait for generations. They work for all types of industry. In the commercial fishing world it works for Lobster, Stone Crab, Blue Crab, Shark, and Catfish. It lasts longer than pig feet and is cheaper to bait per trap. With pig feet averaging one pound you are paying your cost per pound in every trap. Our hides are not only cheaper per pound but are approximately half the weight. Our typical customer is paying $0.75 per trap for pig feet and only $0.22 per trap with our hide product. That is a 70% savings per trap. Factor that over 1,000 traps and it is a $530 savings.

The buckets are sealed with a gasketed lid and can be left out in the elements without the necessity of freezing your bait. As long as the buckets are not in direct sunlight and extreme heat they don’t spoil. For our commercial clients we try and schedule deliveries every few weeks to keep the bait fresh. We have clients during the cooler months who leave the bait out for 45 days without spoilage. If you decide to freeze them there is no real smell while working traps. All bait is pre-cut, and the average piece is 5-7″ wide by 7-10″ long. The average weight per piece is 0.45-0.55 pounds. We source buckets from different distributors, so we stock mainly four- and five-gallon buckets. You can bait 50-70 traps with one 35 pound 5-gallon bucket. You can bait 40-60 traps with one 30 pound 4-gallon bucket.

We let our traps soak up to 2 weeks and still have working hide left. During the warmer months we do not add any supplemental bait to the traps other than hide. When the water cools down we add catfish heads or mullet to the traps to increase yield. We deliver regularly to our commercial clients around the state.
